Restaurant Review

Not only that food is a necessity to survive, but it had become a source of comfort for many Americans. I love to devour good, tasty, and if possible, healthy food. Living independent can be costly, which is why I don’t eat out much. When I do get a chance to eat out, I crave for something that is cheap, delicious, fulfilling, and what we call “comfort food”. I prefer to go to a place where not only that they serve you good eats, but also provide you with great service. My day to dine out fell on a Wednesday. At Hooters, Wednesday is unlimited all-you-can-eat wings day for only $12.99. So I thought, why not! It’s cheap, delicious, fulfilling, and comfort food; just everything that I’m looking for.
There is only one Hooter location here in Bakersfield and that is at 4208 Rosedale Hwy, just a few stop light from Costco. Location is very easy to find because the place is seated in the corner of Rosedale Hwy. and Fairhaven Dr., with big, bright, orange neon lights. The place delivers a sports bar atmosphere; with several big screen TV’s and a fully equipped bar that serves drinks as you desire. As you can already assume, it gets pretty noisy due to talks amongst the people, the news or sports that’s playing on the TV, as well as the music that they play overhead. Hooters are also well known for the vulgar attire of their waitresses that seems to have made the place very popular for the gents. Many say that the place is suitable for any type of guest: women, gentlemen, friends, family, and guest of all ages. Though, in my opinion, I would not bring anyone under the age of 16 years old there, let alone a child or an infant.
Don’t be fooled by thinking that it would not be pack during a weekday night. When we got to Hooters on Wednesday, around 8 o’clock in the evening, the place was crowded with hungry costumers and the hostess could not tell when a table would be available. We waited for about ten to fifteen minutes until we were finally seated on a table, located at the corner of the room, close to the restroom entrance, with a TV just above our heads. I’m not sure if it was due to the business at the time or if it is always like that, but the service was pretty slow. It took them about 30-40 minutes to get our first order and what seemed to be an hour to get our wings refilled. It almost seemed as if they forgot we still had an order pending. Our original waitress took two breaks while she was our waitress. I also got the impression that the waitresses only goes out of their way to satisfy a costumer’s demands when they think that they can appeal to them with their looks. On the other hand, when they do get a chance to come by our table, the waitresses were helpful and cheerful.
When it came to the food, they have a menu containing an array of choices from appetizers to desserts. I’ve never tried any of the burgers from the Hooters menu nor have I tried any of their soups or desserts, but I’ve heard that their deep fried pickles are addictive. What I can say, though, is that their wings are impeccable. You can even smell that their wings are popularly ordered because the stench of the place smelled like wings. They have plenty of flavors to choose from; from mild to nuclear, or you can just get another that is not spiced at all. It also comes in boneless or regular or breaded. I recommend breaded, bone-in wings because the sauce sticks to the bread better and allows you to savor the full impact of the flavor.
Its all-you-can-eat wing Wednesday so we had no problem choosing from any flavor. You have the option of changing the flavor every refill, but of course not everyone can go for more than 3 rounds. Therefore, I recommend going with friends so that everyone can order different flavor and just share it. For my first order, I got parmesan garlic breaded, bone in wings. I’ve never had the Hooters version of this, so the waitress gladly explained how it is. The flavor came as a sauce and not as a dry rub, and it had a strong garlic smell. The taste was great if you only have one piece, but to eat the entire platter can be overwhelming. My friend ordered nuclear naked, boneless wings, which is supposed to be their hottest flavor. As it turned out, the flavor was great, but it is not as hot as I thought it would be, considering that I don’t like spicy food.  I do suggest that everyone try their sweet and mildly spicy Daytona sauce. It has a nice balance of flavor with a little, not too much, after taste kick that you just can get enough of.
As I mentioned before, you can enjoy Hooters all-you-can-eat wings every Wednesday for only $12.99. The entire flavor, as much as you can eat, for an affordable price! Sounds very satisfying right? The only downfall is that they also charge you separately for the sauce and the fries that other restaurants give as complimentary side dishes of each meal. Not mentioning the charges for the drinks, which I do understand had always been a separate charge. Although you are given a choice whether you want these side dishes or not, a simple yes can rack up your tab. Therefore, when you think about it, it is more expensive than it is cheap.
Weighing both the pros and cons of dining out at Hooters, I would say that it is not a place to go to every time you want to eat out. I do recommend the wings, especially during Wednesday, but other than that it is mediocre on my list of top Bakersfield restaurant that must be visited. Maybe consider a take-out instead of dine in to avoid the hassle of mediocre service, but still enjoy good, tasty, and satisfying sustenance.
